Among the classic pieces released by Sideshow, X-Men vs Sentinel No.1 and Hulk vs Spider-Man probably represent the most valued and sought after dioramas. Nevertheless, in my opinion, only the clash between the Green Goliath and Spidey is really comparable to this masterpiece, characterized by a fabulous aesthetic impact, attention to detail, realism, dynamism and an overall top-level quality. Released in 2005 and sculpted by Martin Canale and Juan Bobillo, the diorama of Wolverine vs Sabretooth is a collectible that simply leaves astonished: more than a resin statue, it looks like a materialized action scene from a Comic book! The regular version has an edition size of 1500 pieces, while the exclusive, offering an interchangeable and unmasked head of Logan, is definitely much rarer: only 300 samples worldwide. The dimensions are quite compact, with a size of about 28 x 23 cm, a height of 35 cm, and a weight of 6 kg. Whatever the technical details could be, however, this statue impresses at first sight and represents an irrefutable demonstration of the high quality of the Sideshow early production. The diorama depicts the two characters on a rugged rocky and snowy terrain. Wolverine pitches into his archenemy and hits him fatally at the neck with his adamantium claws, also preparing the left fist to give the final blow. Sabretooth flexes the legs and twists the torso in a grimace of pain: he rises up the left arm looking shelter from the fury of the rival and, at the same time, prepares the claws of his right hand to counterattack. The realism and dynamism of the scene are breathtaking, so much so as to induce the viewer to imagine, instinctively, the continuation of the battle. The figure of Logan is dynamic, nimble and curled up: the legs folded in the jump and the position of the feet are perfect, giving you an idea of great naturalness. The power of his muscles is highlighted by swollen veins and rounded forms, while the typical down on arms is carved and emphasized by a few strokes of color. Note the back of the hero, where the sculpt and the perfect color shades point out both the powerful dorsal muscles and the folds of the costume at the spine. The massive silhouette of Sabretooth is certainly not outdone, also due to the dynamic pose, very appropriate to the scene. The raised left arm puts in evidence the spectacular chest and abdomen, while the quadriceps and calves (supporting the weight of the body) are pumped out of proportion. The details of this diorama are a lot and the care which they were made with is really astonishing! Note the boots and soles of Wolverine soiled with snow, the right proportions of his adamantium claws and the attachment points on the hands, the torn strip of his costume in correspondence to the claws of his enemy. And again: the bloody wounds on the chest of Sabretooth, the sculpt of the hair and the fur on his shoulders, the veins visible through the costume on the neck or the biceps. Every little detail is realized to provide the scene with a perfect realism. The faces (whose size do not exceed 3 cm!) are very detailed: the face of Wolverine exhibits the long side flaps of the mask, two captivating white eyes and a just sketched beard on chin, colored in a workmanlike manner; the unmasked face of Logan of the exclusive version is characterized by very thick eyebrows, well done wrinkles, the blue eyes fixed on the enemy and a charming hair with huge sideburns. On the other hand, the Sabretooth face shows two oversized canines, a masterful coloring of the mouth and an overall expressiveness nothing short of magnificent. Also the base is very well done: it is adorned with a big trunk and adds the wonderful chromatic contrast between the dirty white of the snow and the dominant mustard color of both costumes. In summary, I think the beauty of this statue is really unique in the vast catalogue of Sideshow and, more in general, among all Marvel collectibles: due to its quality, aesthetics and dynamism, it is probably my favorite among all dioramas released by the American Company and, in essence, a collectible which really close to what I call perfection!
